IT to play a key role in future revenue maximisation, says FC President Tony Heuer …
Speaking at this year’s Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention in Miami, FC President Tony Heuer said that maximising onboard revenue is one of the biggest challenges cruise lines face today.
Pointing to the latest generation of mega-liners – with wide-ranging facilities designed to stimulate maximum interest amongst cruise guests with diverse interests – a failure to make the most of facilities on board was an opportunity lost for ever, he told delegates at the cruise industry summit in March.
As examples, the Fidelio President mentioned a half-empty Spa, with therapists sitting around and treatment rooms empty, and poorly attended shore excursions with empty places. If these resources were not put to maximum use, their possible contribution to profits on board was permanently lost, he said.

“But we can seize on these opportunities. Through our Universal Interface which is effectively now the industry standard, Interactive TV can be used to sell last-minute capacity, generating revenue which otherwise would be lost. This feeds directly to a cruise operator’s bottom line. We are working on software systems that will herald a revolution in revenue maximisation on board and open new opportunities for post-cruise follow-up.”
